They ask me 12k pounds to insure a goddamn Mitsubishi FTO!
And they won't let me insure an Alfa 166. Nor the 190E. Or a Volvo V70. Or a Saab 9-5. Or a E30. Or a Jaaaaag XJ6.
It's a very good thing here in Indonesia you didn't forced to insure your cars, altough the cars is a bit expensive. Anyway, have a 3D mesh of Mitsubishi Aeroqueen.

no insurance is a good thing? Okay, i'll think about that next time some lowlife loser rams my car. I'm sure he/she/it has all the money in the world to fix it.

Well, in here there's a myth that if you hit somebody, that means you doesn't deserve to own your car. And if he's dead, he doesn't have to paid.
My CLS is insured tough. But my kia, mazda, and my brother's 300TD isn't.

Yeah... Insurance is needed over here because asshats are EVERYWHERE. It's expensive because of said asshats and also dependent on where you live, how long you've been driving and whether the car's high risk - same as most countries, I imagine.
Where have you looked for insurance? There are some specialist places depending on what you want to drive.

Yeah, there are loads of places to get insurance from and it is mandatory. Worth shopping around.

Those prices are insane. I still haven't figured out why the UK is so horrendously expensive, so much more expensive than continental (Western-)Europe which is culturally at least somewhat similar. When it comes to insurance I'm sure you'll be better off in a country like Germany.

Well, actually going to Germany first and visit my mom's friends becoming much better idea. Plus i know germans (a bit), and once living there for three years and entering kindergarten there. So i think i might as well go to Germany first.

Try moneysupermarket.com for somewhat more realistic quotes.

FTO have horrid insurance rates, newer, non-import cars fare much better (I don't think the FTO was sold over here, if it was then not for long, most cars are imports), you seem to have picked a bunch of cars that are expensive to insure there.

It's not so bad once you've built up even a relatively small amount of 'no claims bonus', but yeah, insurance is absolutely insane for new drivers - whether freshly qualified, or foreign - in the UK. Something really needs to be done about it, though I've no idea what, as I haven't a clue as to what makes it so expensive over here in the first place.
The trade-off is that, once you've gotten a little older - again, this is from the perspective of a UK native, who isn't having to start fresh as an already experienced driver - and built up some 'no-claims', you get to take advantage of our used market's prices.

I think there has to be something more to it than just 'asshats'.
Every nation has its asshat drivers - hell, if you look at statistics on road safety and such, we're actually pretty good, overall - and yet, drivers in most other European countries - despite road conditions being broadly similar - generally don't have to pay nearly as much as us. There has to be some other explanation.
